TOP INTERNATIONAL PROPERTY AGENTS TASKED WITH CHOCOLATE WORKS BRIEF

The search to attract new blue-chip businesses to York has received another boost. Two of the world's leading commercial property agents have been appointed by the new owners of the iconic Chocolate Works site to lead the drive.

Henry Boot Developments Ltd, who acquired the former Terry's factory site with David Wilson Homes Yorkshire East in April, has tasked property agents Jones Lang LaSalle and Savills to promote the site's development potential across a wide range of residential and commercial uses (offices, retail and hotels) to their national and international client bases.

According to Ben Ward, Senior Development Surveyor Henry Boot Developments, the marketing contacts and expertise of the new joint agents will be instrumental in attracting inward investment and directing how The Chocolate Works evolves within its outline planning consent:

"Jones Lang LaSalle and Savills are both extremely highly regarded agents in the commercial property sector with offices in numerous countries. Their expertise in attracting future tenants and business owners will be invaluable in making The Chocolate Works the successful development that the city deserves after almost a decade of dereliction."

The move has been welcomed by the city's Director of City and Environmental Services, Darren Richardson, who believes the site offers some of the best potential for inward investors of any in York

"International interest at our recent attendance at the international property conference – MIPIM – confirmed the appeal of York as a business destination. Couple that with a site adjacent to the racecourse and with some iconic historic buildings to see just what a "des-res" the Chocolate Works is for aspiring businesses."

The commercial part of The Chocolate Works site – owned by Henry Boot Developments - has planning consent for a variety of uses including residential units, offices, hotels and shops. A mainly residential development involving around 270 homes is already underway on the north side of the site by York based housebuilder David Wilson Homes Yorkshire East.
